I could have done without the teeth-chattering, the almost constant rain and the back-breaking hike needed to get to this place. But I’d come this far just to see it, so there was no point in turning back [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "The Symbol on the Rock", url: "http://brandonsatrom.com/2008/05/09/the-symbol-on-the-rock/" });...Read more Join the discussion at Words of Redemption
Last night's "Smallville" was just so-so for me. This whole thing about the secret society and Clark being "the Traveler" and what-not isn't grabbing me. But the teaser for next week's show (the season finale) looked pretty incredible. Here's what the CW says about the episode:Kara (Laura Vandervoort) tells Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) he is destined to defeat the Traveler and offers to take him to the Fortress to learn how.Clark (Tom Welling) is stunned that Kara would go to Lex but it is revealed that...Read more Join the discussion at The Comics Fan
We couldn't agree more with this statement from the national ASPCA, (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in response to the death of Eight Belles at last weekend's Kentucky Derby (see our May 5 blog): ?The fragile nature of thoroughbred racehorses and the stress and rigors that the industry subjects on these animals is loudly evidenced in the tragic death of Eight Belles who, as we saw, was euthanized after both of her front ankles collapsed just after coming in second...Read more Join the discussion at Pet Pourri
Every year the miller moths come in May and early June. Sometimes its just a trickle. Sometimes it's a flood that provoke odd rituals in which locals sit in the dark by soapy bowls of water, jingling keys. (The best way to trap moths.) The last few years have been tame. This year could go either way. So far, I have spotted zero moths. But send your reports to dave.philipps@gazette.com....Read more Join the discussion at Out There
One of the best known cycling bloggers is the Fat Cyclist whose real is Elden Nelson. Not only does he write an awesome blog, he's also finished the Leadville 100 more times than just about anyone else. His wife, Susan, has battling cancer for the last few years and yet they've kept a positive attitude. Last week they went to the doctor because she had lost the ability to focus on anything at all, even for a moment, and her coordination was gone. Although severe depression is common after chemo,...Read more Join the discussion at UltraRob's Adventures
I got a random email from the Epsom Salt Industry Council (yes. There's an Epsom Salt Industry Council) the other day outlining the myriad beauty uses for their?seemingly miracle?product. Honestly, until that email arrived, my reference point for Epsom Salts was Scary Things Found in My Grandparents' Bathroom (other items in this file: tooth brushes with a plastic pick on one end, doll-in-crocheted-dress toilet paper covers and anything by Jean Naté). However, as it turns out, there are actually...Read more Join the discussion at My Big Fat Irish Blog
Thin Film Metal Parts has a new address, but the Eagle Electronics LLC subsidiary is still in the same northwest Colorado Springs building.

Kaylee is starting her transition to the toddler room at daycare this week, and I am trying my best not to be filled with trepidation. There are big changes ahead, and I can?t help worrying about how she?ll adjust.
A few months ago, a coworker stopped by to tell me that ......Read more Join the discussion at Pikes Peak Parent Mommy Blog
This is a letter to the editor on VeloNews.com, and I'm in full agreement with this guy. If they agree that it was legitimately for his asthma and a simple mistake, why still suspend him? If they want to argue it gave him a performance enhancement that day, fine, strip him of that result, but to suspend him is just silly. It appears to be done for no other reason than to appear tough. -Ryan Inhaler abuse? Here you are, half a million people living in the shadow of a slab
of granite, trying to leave your marks on the world. For 130-odd
years, The Gazette has been doing its damnedest to get you all on
the record, but we still want to know: Just who do you think you
are?
Welcome to SpringsRoll.
There are tons of you spilling your thoughts into the ether. We
wanna be your transmitter — to help you expose yourselves
to each other (intellectually), to guide your fingers to each other’s
pulses (virtually), and perhaps to mix in a few metaphors (parenthetically).
We want to know who’s skiing naked, who’s focusing on
families, who’s keeping Manitou weird, who’s hiking
where, and who’s mad at whom.
Join the fun by clicking through our local blogroll (you’ll
wanna bookmark it since we’ll be adding new stuff all the
time).
Everyone’s waiting to hear your voice. ’Cause we can’t
stop wondering: Just who do you think you are?
